Partial study programme Educational Sciences in the M. Ed. - Teaching Qualification for Special Needs Education

The "Educational Sciences" sub-degree programme of the Master of Education - Special Needs Education comprises the following compulsory modules: "School theory, school system and school development" (SP_BIL1), "Teaching, teaching quality and teaching research" (SP_BIL2) and the module "German for migrant pupils" (SP_BIL3), which is integrated into the sub-degree programme. The research project (SP_BIL4) is located in the compulsory elective area.

In the module "School Theory, School System and School Development" (SP_BIL1), students deal with the theoretical foundations of educational processes and apply these in the critical reflection of pedagogical situations. They are familiar with the structures of the German education system and understand that individual pedagogical action is embedded in social contexts within the multi-level structure of the education system. They are familiar with political and administrative principles and procedures of planning and control in the education system as well as goals and methods of individual school development including concrete procedures (e.g. self-evaluation and external evaluation) for quality assurance and development and can relate these to school organisational challenges, especially in the context of inclusive education. They are familiar with cooperation with other teachers and representatives of other professional groups at schools as a professional task and are able to reflect on scientific concepts and findings on school teamwork in terms of their consequences for their own professional role as a special education
teacher.

The aim of the module "Teaching, Teaching Quality and Teaching Research" (SP_ BIL2) is to develop or further develop the skills required for planning, implementing and reflecting on teaching. Didactics as a theory of teaching provides orientation and structuring knowledge as well as legitimisation aids for teaching activities. The module thus supports a scientifically reflective habitus in the planning and analysis of teaching and learning processes. It provides an introduction to the objectives, results and methods of empirical teaching research and conveys the results of teaching research on key aspects of teaching quality as well as methods for diagnosing, evaluating and improving teaching quality.

In the module "German for migrant pupils" (SP_BIL3), students deal with the special linguistic and cultural starting position of migrant pupils. They acquire basic skills in the area of language support for migrant pupils and the organisation of intercultural education in heterogeneous learning groups. Students will gain an overview of the development and key theories, models and methods in the field of German as a second language; they will recognise multilingualism as a resource and learn about ways of incorporating the languages pupils bring with them into their own lessons. They deal with procedures, tasks and goals of diagnosing language levels and linguistic competences as well as with ways of promoting reading and writing skills in the second language. They will gain an insight into concepts and methods of intercultural learning and know how to incorporate these into their lessons.
