Digital teaching concept at the IfB

22.05.2025|10:57 Uhr

Affected courses: The following concept applies to all digital courses (dLV) with a planned digital teaching component of more than 25 per cent at the start of the semester. Course components are always digital if they are not taught on campus and digital media are used to teach the course content. Courses that are offered digitally at short notice for other reasons (e.g. illness) and courses in the DigiModule are not affected.

Principle: The previous procedure will be replaced by a simplified procedure. The concept does not provide for a review of the content and didactic design of dLV by the Academic Advisory Board and the IfB Council, but rather shifts this didactic review to the module coordinators. Furthermore, the concrete organisational framework of dLV is defined on the basis of four guidelines.

Guidelines for digital teaching

Guideline 1: All dLV must take place at the following times:

- Within the VLZ: Mon-Thu 18-22h, Fri 8-22h, Sat 8-22h

- Outside the VLZ: Mon-Sat 8-22h

Guideline 2: All dLVs provide at least 10 per cent of the course time (approx. 120 minutes for 14 semester weeks) for personal exchange with lecturers (also digitally via Zoom). The personal exchange should be made possible at least three different times during the semester, whereby one exchange appointment can also take place during a consultation hour.

Guideline 3: The proportion of synchronous input phases (e.g. via Zoom) may not exceed 50 per cent of the scheduled teaching time for dLV. Synchronous input phases may last a maximum of 180 minutes at a time. After that, another (digital) form of learning (e.g. break-out sessions, texts, reflection, screencasts, co-operative phases via Moodle or whiteboards) must be incorporated.

Guideline 4: In the case of seminars, at least 50% of the seminar offerings of the same module component must be offered in presence in the semester applied for. In the case of digital lectures for which there is no face-to-face alternative in the semester in question, there should be a face-to-face course in the previous and following semester. The module coordinators are responsible for ensuring and checking that this attendance is offered.
