Offer: Master theses on the topic of "outdoor learning"

Since the coronavirus pandemic and the more flexible working options offered by advancing digitalisation, more and more schools have been pursuing the idea of moving school lessons outdoors more and more often. Added to this are the objectives of nature encounter and ESD, the promotion of exercise and much more. Several schools in the vicinity of the University of Wuppertal have also become active and have developed concepts for outdoor learning. The Empirical School Research department is in contact with two schools: the Bleibergquelle primary school in Velbert (newly opened in 2023, see https://gsbleibergquelle.de/draussenschule/) and the Wilhelm Kraft comprehensive school in Sprockhövel(https://wkge-en.de/wkge/). What both schools have in common is that the majority of lessons for certain classes take place outside one day a week, preferably in the forest, regardless of the wind and weather. Both schools are interested in scientific monitoring of their work.

The "Empirical School Research" department would like to encourage interested Master of Education students to make research-based monitoring of outdoor learning at these schools the subject of their Master's theses. The Master's theses are to start in the 2025/26 school year and then be developed and written over the course of the winter semester. To support the Master's theses, the "Empirical School Research" department offers a regular colloquium. The programme is primarily aimed at all Master's students studying to become teachers at the University of Wuppertal.

Interested students should contact Christina Wiens (e-mail: wiens[at]uni-wuppertal.de) by 12 June 2025. On 16 June 2025, 14:00 to 15:30, there will be a preliminary discussion with the interested students. The location for the preliminary meeting will be communicated after pre-registration.
